Queen is considered one of the most important bands in the history of rock. With a total of 14 studio albums, seven live albums, and numerous compilations, the British band formed in 1970 has had a significant global presence in popular culture for more than five decades.

The band was founded by physicist and astronomer Brian May on guitar, dentist Roger Taylor on drums, electronics engineer John Deacon on bass, and graphic designer Farrokh Bulsara from Zanzibar, Tanzania who upon arriving in London, changed his name to Freddie Mercury to become the distinctive voice and image of the band.

For 21 years, the band, which started influenced by hard rock, heavy metal, and progressive rock, would become a revolutionary force and pioneer in exploring new musical styles, challenging traditional rock conventions, and standing out for their impressive vocal harmonies, powerful soul style, and innovative compositions that uniquely and enduringly connected with their audience, to the point of including them as a fundamental element in several of their compositions.

Freddie Mercury's theatricality in performance would make Queen one of the best live bands of all time, setting a new standard for what it meant to be a rock band on stage, while the versatility of their music would inspire countless subsequent bands and singers such as Katy Perry, Adele, Slipknot, Robbie Williams, Dream Theater, among many others.
