Israeli airstrikes pounded the southern suburbs of Beirut late on Thursday (June 5), sending thousands fleeing on the eve of the Muslim feast day of Eid al-Adha. The attacks have been met with strong condemnation from top Lebanese officials, who accused Israel of violating the ceasefire deal. At least ten strikes targeted Dahiyeh, a suburb in the south of Beirut. The Israeli military said that it was targeting "underground drone production infrastructure sites that were deliberately established in the heart of civilian population" in Dahiyeh. Israel claims that Hezbollah is producing thousands of drones in these locations with "direction and funding of Iranian terrorists." Hezbollah has consistently denied placing military infrastructure in civilian areas.
