Mega Man 10 wasn't a surprise comeback, nor re-invented the wheel. It only did what the series did best: quick turnout sequels. (Chapter Markers and more below…)

Partial transcript
Looking back at Mega Man 9, in 2008, it was a shock that Capcom would bring one of its oldest heroes back from the dead, and to do it in his original format, 8-Bit graphics and all.
2008 was the middle of a wave that saw classic gaming brought back into the mainstream view. The Wii Virtual Console led the way, with hundreds of classic games that were long forgotten available for just a few dollars uh I mean Wii Points!! Old timers relived the Glory Days, while the younger set got a great history lesson.
Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Store were also there, with smaller, lower priced downloadable games that often reflected classic aesthetics.
But in that wave of 8-Bit Rebirth, there was a dichotomy of either straight re-release, or full-on remake.
Mega Man 9 broke from that with what was basically a “New” NES game! And boy, was it great!!
With huge buzz, Positive reviews and reportedly high sales, it was one of the best games of 2008.
And if Mega Man 9 had been the end, that would have been fine. We had our moment and that was enough, but Capcom wasn’t done…
With the game all wrapped up by the end of 2009, Capcom took to the pages of Nintendo Power to announce that Mega Man 10 was its way! It was just like old times all over again…. Again!! The January 2010 issue announced to the world that the “Tenth Time’s the Charm!” Along with details of a few stages and their Robot Masters came the release date on Wii Ware: March 1st, 2010!! For only 1000 Wii points, or 10 US dollars.
The game would also arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later that month, but Nintendo Power never mentioned that! Coincidentally it was the magazine’s 250th issue and for subscribers, Mega Man graced the cover just like he did back in the old days, one last time.
In Japan, Capcom sold a retail box to celebrate the release of Rockman 10! Called Rock ManJuu, the box contained Manju, a confectionary made with bean paste. Juu is also the Japanese word for ten! The name fits perfectly. A version with a retail box of the first Rockman from 1987 was also released at the same time.
